A total of eleven million dollars' worth of scholarships for African students have been announced by Ottawa University in Canada
African students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs at the University of Ottawa in Canada have been given the opportunity to apply for Entrance & Excellence grants worth eleven million dollars.
This scholarship is divided into two distinct programs, which are referred to as the Entrance scholarship and the Excellence scholarship. Both of these scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students from Africa and other countries who are studying English and who are accepted into the Fall 2024 term (which begins in September).
As Nairametrics discovers, this award will pay a portion of the expenses associated with their university education over the course of four years.
Scholarship details
- Not only does the scholarship recognize academic accomplishments before to enrolling in university, but it also recognizes accomplishments during each term of full-time study at the university.
- Because of the scholarships, African students who are studying in English will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of pilot programs across three different faculties at a greatly reduced cost of tuition.
- Scholarship amounts are subject to change based on the average number of applicants and the faculty members who are conducting the program.
- Excellence scholarships are given through a competitive process among the best candidates who have an entrance average of 90% or better, who apply for admission by April 1, 2024, and whose admission has been processed by April 15, 2024. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2024.
- Both the Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English and the Entrance Scholarship cannot be combined into a single award.
- A higher priority will be given to applicants who have the University of Ottawa as their first choice.
Who can apply
International students must demonstrate that they meet the following requirements in order to be considered for these scholarships:
- be a citizen of any country in Africa
- be newly admitted in the fall 2024 term in one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English in one of the faculties listed
- not enrol in the French immersion stream
- have a valid study permit when classes start
- be enrolled full-time.
How to apply
Here are the steps to make an application:

- The student has to apply Undergraduate Program
- The application would then be received by the universe, which would then produce a Student Number for the prospective student. This Student Number would be used by the prospective student to go into the school's portal, which is called UOZone, and then submit their results and papers for evaluation.
- Upon completion of the review process, students will be presented with a conditional admission offer, which may or may not include the scholarship, based on their overall grade point average.
The deadline for the application is 1st April 2024.
