Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is actively exploring two innovative transportation solutions to enhance its mass transit network.
Dubai Explores Innovative Mass Transit Solutions
During the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF), the RTA signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) with international companies, signaling a strategic move to incorporate sophisticated and advanced practices in its transportation infrastructure.
The first MoU involves UK-based Urban.Mass, focusing on the development of the Floc Duo Rail system—a lightweight, driverless smart train resembling a 'platoon of pods.' The second MoU is with US-based Rail Bus Inc., targeting the implementation of a solar-powered rail bus system. These agreements align with the RTA's strategic plans to collaborate with premier companies and specialized entities.
Urban.Mass's Floc Duo Rail system consists of driverless, electric-powered pods operating on an elevated track. Notably, it eliminates the need for extensive earthworks, costly tunnels, and large stations. The system's scalability, swift installation, reduced environmental impact, and smart-designed driverless trains contribute to its appeal. Solar panels integrated into the infrastructure aim to provide energy for operation, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability.
The second MoU with Rail Bus Inc. focuses on a solar-powered rail bus system. This solution employs small, driverless electric vehicles running on elevated tracks, offering a lightweight and flexible mass transit option. The system's adaptability to various environments and its environmentally friendly and operationally efficient features make it an appealing choice for urban mobility.
Both agreements underscore Dubai's commitment to advancing sustainable and innovative transportation solutions. The driverless smart train and solar-powered rail bus system align with the city's vision for zero carbon emissions and operational efficiency. The partnerships with Urban.Mass and Rail Bus Inc. aim to set new benchmarks in sustainable mobility tailored to Dubai's unique needs, contributing to a greener and more efficient future.
Ricky Sandhu, founder and CEO of Urban.Mass, highlighted the partnership as a symbol of the mutual commitment between the UK and the UAE to combat climate change. Hatim Ibrahim, CEO of Rail Bus Inc., emphasized that the collaboration with the RTA marks a significant step towards a greener future, setting new standards in sustainable mobility for Dubai.
